PFPE dispersed $10,000 to the Class of 2024
The Suzanne J. Buche Scholarship was established in 2005, in memory of Suzi Buche. Suzi – a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend – passed away at the age of 46 on January 30, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer. Suzi was co-owner of Gibson’s Bookstore. She was an active supporter of the Portland athletic program and attended both of her children’s sporting events … even when her health was failing. Her vivacious personality, generous spirit and loving manner will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
The Portland Foundation for Public Education is honored to select one PHS Senior and award them a $1750 scholarship in honor of Suzi.
The Shirley Storz-Smith Scholarship was established in November, 2000, by Shirley Storz-Smith. The intent of the Shirley Storz-Smith Scholarship is to recognize and reward active service, productive citizenship, scholastic achievement and excellent character in a Portland Public Schools’ graduate who wishes to pursue a vocational career.

The Portland High School Class of 1959 Scholarship
The intent of this fund is to provide financial assistance to potential scholars and target worthy Portland High School graduates determined to succeed. We wish to recognize and reward those who have served the community; been productive citizens; achieved scholastic standards and established good character.

ALYCE HARRIS-DOWLING MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
The intent of the Alyce Harris-Dowling Scholarship is to recognize and reward active service, productive citizenship, scholastic achievement and excellent character in a Portland Public Schools’ graduate.
The Portland Foundation for Public Education is honored to award two PHS Seniors with a $1,000 scholarship in memory of Alyce.
The Robertson Family Scholarship was established in 1998 by Michael R. Grant in memory of Malcolm (Mike), Trophena (Jo) and Jane A. Robertson. Malcolm, a man of humor and compassion, was long employed by Maynard-Allen State Bank. He passed away in 1977. Jo was a Portland teacher who demonstrated a special caring for troubled students. She served on the Portland Board of Education in 1951-62 and was also a librarian. She passed away in 1991. Jane, their daughter, was a speech pathologist/therapist who was dedicated to working with pre-primary impaired children at Ken-O-Sha Diagnostic Center, Grand Rapids Public Schools. She passed away in 1994.
The intent of the Robertson Family Scholarship is to recognize and reward active service, productive citizenship, scholastic achievement and excellent character in a Portland Public Schools’ graduate who wishes to pursue a career in special education, working with handicapped or otherwise disabled people, and or in the educational field in general.
